John Noyes’ 55 Chevy is an 80s time capsule that we just couldn’t walk past.
“I bought it around three years ago from the third or fourth Australian owner, after an importer in
Queensland brought it in,” begins John, who was instantly attracted to the car’s unique
aesthetic.
“I love 80s cars and the graphics. Some people think it’s dying but I think it’s coming back,” he
beams.

Aside from the blue and magenta graphics, the ’55 runs a 6/71-blown small block Chev.
“It’s one of those 600hp crate engines. We checked the tune recently and on only 6psi it’s making 440hp
at the wheels,” explains John.

Elsewhere under the floor pan, a Turbo 400 shifts gears and a 9 inch diff distributes drive to the
hefty rear billet wheels.
“We’ve been renewing and updating a few little things because it’s an old build and it’s been
sitting for so long, but I don’t want to touch too much because that’d change what’s so great
about the car,” says John.

Most of the upgrades have centred around making the car more drivable on the street, including
new Wilwood rear brakes and a new brake booster so that his wife can enjoy some time in the
captain’s chair, too.
“This is our second year driving it from Cessnock to Canberra. I’ll get in and drive this thing
anywhere!” he grins.
