Summernats and Black Dog Institute drive change together on World Suicide Prevention Day

Street Machine Summernats 38 is proud to announce a new charity partnership with Black Dog Institute, unveiled today on World Suicide Prevention Day.

As part of the partnership, spectators purchasing their Summernats tickets online will be encouraged to add a $2 donation to directly support Black Dog Institute’s vital work in creating better mental health outcomes for all Australians.

On site this January, fans can also head to a pop-up barber shop ahead of the famous Mulletfest competition, where haircuts will be offered in exchange for a donation to the cause.

Black Dog Institute spokesperson Colin Moore said the partnership is an exciting way to bring the mental health message to one of Australia’s most passionate communities.

“We are thrilled to partner with Summernats. Initiatives like this help us change the conversation around mental health,” Mr Moore said.

“By joining forces with Summernats, we can reach a huge audience of entrants, spectators and fans to raise awareness, reduce stigma and support life-changing research and programs.

“Every small action, including a $2 donation, helps us move closer to our goal of achieving better mental health for all Australians.”

Summernats co-owner Andy Lopez said Black Dog Institute was a perfect fit for the event.

“Summernats is about more than cars. It’s about community, connection and supporting each other,” Mr Lopez said

“We know that mental health is a massive issue across Australia, especially for the younger demographics that make up a big part of our event. Partnering with Black Dog Institute allows us to give back, help break down stigma and support suicide prevention services that are essential for our community.

“We’re proud to bring them on board and encourage every single Summernats fan to get behind this cause.”

World Suicide Prevention Day

World Suicide Prevention Day is observed on 10 September each year. It is a time for communities around the globe to reflect, connect and recommit to the shared goal of preventing suicide and spreading hope. This year’s theme, Changing the Narrative on Suicide, calls on us all to replace silence and stigma with openness, empathy and action.
