A record-breaking day at Street Machine Summernats 38 saw bumper crowds, big heat and plenty of action across all corners of the EPIC precinct.
The biggest news of the day was Daniel Szabolics’ twin turbo, big-block HQ Monaro scorching the current Summernats Haltech Horsepower Heroes dyno record with a whopping 3682hp run. You can read more about that here, and we’re super keen to see him back it up on Sunday!

With the unveilings of the Meguiar’s Great Uncover complete from the Thursday night, they were joined by the Top 60 showcase in the Meguiar’s Pavilion, with the doors now open to the bumper crowds.

Friday was also the first full day of action over on the burnout pad, with qualifying sessions for both the open and Pro Burnout series classes. With track temperatures through the roof, tyre fires and the mechanical attrition rate carried over from Thursdays Wildcard Shootout.

LYNCHY, freshly landed back on Aussie soil laid down one of his best skids. He took more time on his tip in, producing one of the biggest smoke shows he’s ever displayed on the Summernats pad.
Paul Cook’s blown big block BLWNVC spat the rods with the ejecting rotating assembly severing a fuel line causing one of the largest fires on the Summernats pad in recent memory. The fuel tank all but emptied and took the Fire Crew over a dozen extinguishers to put out the blaze, as methanol spilled under the barriers as the flames followed.

Once the pad went silent, the main arena fired up with a killer rock concert including Killing Heidi, The Screaming Jets and The Living End. Those who didn’t stick around at EPIC likely headed into the CBD for round two of the Braddon Fringe Festival, which is growing in popularity year on year.

Saturday is by far the busiest day on the Summernats schedule with a Pro Burnout champion and Summernats Grand Champion to crown amongst a whole lot more – so make sure to tune in so you don’t miss it!
