The setting sun on Friday night at the Alice Springs Inland Dragway for Red CentreNATS 12 brought with it our first dose of burnout action, as both the Open class and Castlemaine Rod Shop Pro Burnout series class hit the pad for qualifying runs.

This would be the only chance for the drivers to qualify for the finals on Sunday, with a top 10 from both the Open and Pro classes going through. There is a Redemption Round session on Sunday for those in Pro class who missed out on the top 10, but to have a shot at the $30,000 top prize, the drivers had to hang it all out there on Friday.

The Open class kicked off proceedings, and there was action aplenty from the bumper field. Fires, wall taps, breakages and plenty struggling to get tyres off on the sticky pad.

Kicking off the Pro class was Cohen Walters in the 4LIMITA wagon, who gave the wall two visits with the front and rear, losing his front bumper in the process.

Dom Luci in LITMUP did get the tyres off, but cornered himself into a tricky spot at the end of his run right near the exit shoot.

Jake Myers had an early showing in the qualifiers in his return to Alice Springs. The Mustang smoked the pad out with consistently high RPM throughout the run, earning him a spot in the top 10 for Sunday.

Fresh of a Pro Burnout series win at Northern Nats, Ryan ‘Bubba’ Lofts decided to keep the momentum rolling and make the trek to Alice in OR WHAT. He was full noise throughout his whole run, also doing enough to snag a place in Sunday’s final.

Hayden Phipps in the SHIFTED Suzuki Mighty Boy was the last out on the pad, but after starting strong, a cough turned into a minor engine bay fire, ending his run.
