Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, and to mark the occasion, Street Machine Summernats 38 has unveiled a new charity partnership with Black Dog Institute.
As part of the partnership, spectators purchasing their Summernats 38 tickets online will be encouraged to add a $2 donation to directly support Black Dog Institute’s vital work in creating better mental health outcomes for all Australians.
And during the event itself this January, fans can head to a pop-up barber shop before the famous Mulletfest competition, where haircuts will be offered in exchange for a donation to the cause.
Black Dog Institute spokesperson Colin Moore said the partnership is an exciting way to bring the mental health message to one of Australia’s most passionate communities. “We are thrilled to partner with Summernats. Initiatives like this help us change the conversation around mental health,” he said.
“By joining forces with Summernats, we can reach a huge audience of entrants, spectators and fans to raise awareness, reduce stigma and support life-changing research and programs.
“Every small action, including a $2 donation, helps us move closer to our goal of achieving better mental health for all Australians.”
Summernats co-owner Andy Lopez said Black Dog Institute was a perfect fit for the event. “Summernats is about more than cars. It’s about community, connection and supporting each other,” he said.
“We know that mental health is a massive issue across Australia, especially for the younger demographics that make up a big part of our event. Partnering with Black Dog Institute allows us to give back, help break down stigma and support suicide prevention services that are essential for our community.
“We’re proud to bring them on board and encourage every single Summernats fan to get behind this cause.”
