The heat was once again brought to the Springmount Raceway burnout pad for Northern Nats 9, with three classes of tyre-killers hitting the pad over three days for bragging rights and big cash prizes.

Combatants were divided into Pro Burnout, Open, and Development classes. Unlike other events, Northern Nats runs a system of combined points from all three runs to determine the winners of each class, so those chasing glory would have to hang it all out in every run to have a chance. It certainly gave the punters plenty of value for money across the weekend.

Along with two Pro Burnout tickets for Street Machine Summernats 38 and two Wildcard Shootout spots on the line, there was nearly $30,000 in prize money on offer, including $15,000 for first place in the Pro Burnout class.

The top gong went to Kyle Hardy in his MRLOOS HQ, powered by a Warspeed Industries-built blown LS. Kyle threw down one hell of a skid on Sunday arvo to snatch the $15K first prize.

Ryan Pearson in HOLDON scored second place in the Pro class, using every inch of the pad in his Sunday afternoon run as he belted out smoke from the angry Bowtie small-block combo.

Reigning Pro Burnout series champion Peter Grmusa dragged XAKING all the way up from Victoria to smoke out the Northern Nats crowd. He did just that to great effect in all of his runs, earning him third spot in class.

Ryan ‘Bubba’ Lofts finished fourth in the Pro Burnout class in the OR WHAT VX Holden, and also won the powerskid competition.

Kev Davis in the EPA WHO VZ ute rounded out the top five, also nabbing second in the powerskids. He put in a huge effort to do so, leaving the pad on three wheels after one of the rear spinners exited the ute at the end of his run.

In the Open Class, Mitchell Muscat won in his SHRED EM One Tonner, earning $4000 cash and an invite to the Wildcard Shootout at Summernats 38. Second in class went to Terry Blanchard in the JOYRIDE Toyota Corolla, and rounding out the podium was Nathan Petts in the R U FRYD Commodore ute.
